Mera gala dabaya: Priyanka Gandhi accuses UP Police of strangulating, manhandling her

Lucknow, December 28, 2019: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was on Saturday forcibly stopped from meeting the family of a man who had recently taken part in the anti-Citizenship Act protests in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, Priyanka's car was stopped in Lucknow by the police while she was on her way to visit the family of  Sadaf Jafar, who was arrested in connection with the violent protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 in UP.

“They have stopped me midway on the road. What is the meaning of this? There's no point stopping us on the road. It's not an issue of the SPG, but of the UP Police,” she said while speaking to reporters.

Deviating from her scheduled plan, Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra dodged the Lucknow Police to meet the kin of SR Darapuri, former IPS and social activist who has been arrested in connection with the violence that followed CAA and NRC protest in the state capital on December 19

Refusing to follow any instructions, a visibly fuming Priyanka got down from her car and travelled to Darapuri's house located about 2.5 kilometres from the polytechnic square.

Priyanka was stopped by the UP Police on two points, namely 1090 and polytechnic squares – at around 5.30 pm. She also entered into an arguement with a police on duty at the polytechnic square and questioned why was she being stopped.

“UP police stopped me while I was going to meet family of (SR) Darapuri. Police strangulated & manhandled me. They surrounded me while I was going on a party worker's two-wheeler, after which I walked to reach there”, she told.
