High drama in Kerala assembly: Oppn MLAs protest against Governor Arif Mohammad Khan

Protesting Opposition MLAs blocked Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan's path to the podium as he arrived at the state assembly Wednesday, and raised slogans against him.

Thiruvananthapuram, January 29, 2020: Congress-led Opposition MLAs blocked Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan's path as he arrived at the state assembly Wednesday and raised slogans against him.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Khan was met by a crowd of United Democratic Front (UDF) MLAs holding placards with messages such as "Call Back Governor" and "We the People (of) India Resist CAA". They blocked his path to the podium.

The Governor stood and waited patiently, with a hint of a smile. Right next to him, Chief Minister Vijayan appeared to be gesturing to the UDF MLAs to make way. Assembly marshals had to intervene.

Escorted by assembly marshals, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan eventually got to the podium and began addressing the House, but the Opposition MLAs walked out and began an sit-in outside the assembly.
