PEACEFUL PROTEST BY INTELLECTUALS TRIES TO SMOTHER THE COMMUNAL FIRESTORM

Today it seems that communal groups are working according to their plans and are hogging the headlines for their nefarious activities, seeking fame in infamy.

We need unity and understanding, coupled with courage to show communal groups that Muslims are like single body and if a part of it feels hurt then the whole body is under its influence. Which means that Muslims cannot be taken for granted and treated like cannon fodder for the communal howitzers.

Gujarat is known through out the country for Hindutva. In the last 60 decades more than 60,000 communal riots took place, whereas only in Gujarat in 2002, an estimated million Muslims were martyred. Though this is the incident not comparable to the thousands killed in the police action of Hyderabad after independence, or demolishing of Babri Masjid in 1992—in all the times Muslims were consigned to death.

When cow slaughtering was forbidden in this free land during the times when Congress governments were in power, supposedly secular governments, at the centre. Above all, thousands of educated Muslims were jailed on the mere suspicion of being terrorists even during Congress regimes and now with greater intensity during BJP rule, and whole community was tarred by the same brush, as terrorists.  This is more dangerous than the lynching of Akhlaq and Nauman, because the whole Indian society is now in turmoil.

Today it seems that communal groups are working according to their plans and are hogging the headlines for their nefarious activities, seeking fame in infamy.

But what happened in the past decade was not less than the preseat any cost. So to raise voice that Muslims are sneered in every field of lives may be political wisdom but it not shows nationalist sympathy. It will be empathy for them to increase their courage and conscious to live with countrymen. Now the situation is not so disastrous that the present trying situation would destroy the future of Muslims completely, but untold anguish is caused to families of minority communities, for their social boycott, lack of food and shelter as well as job opportunities.

A majority of the compatriots do not like communalists. The communal group got only 31 percent vote that means 69 percent does not like BJP. It is a failure of our democratic system that small minority of voters are able to propel a government to power with……….. seats. Based on this limited electoral mandate BJP has tried to show—both to India and the world– that they will rule the waves forever.

The results of Delhi assembly poll and two phases of Bihar current election reveal that BJP has failed to attend the public’s inclination after putting disparate efforts by RSS nutwings.

The spirit of humanity is still alive and kicking as some sane-minded Hindus have raised their voices in protest, and some even lost their lives—Dalits and Kalburgi-like intellectuals—to mobs swayed by frenzied hate.

A small news was seen in news papers along with Akhlaq’s horrific killing in his own house by hate-fueled mobs– that was drowned in the public reaction to the killing– that some Hindu families came to the rescue of Muslims. This news was not on the radar as the media continued to play on only the Dadri killings while ignoring the sentiments of a large majority of Hindus who are, and continue to remain, peace-loving.

It has been erased from people’s minds that two young youth from Hindu community in the same village rescued two Muslim families by taking their luggage across the river in middle of night. It is also reported that a non-Muslim friend of Akhlaq’s son suggested to him to leave the village for 8 to 10 days to save their lives from assault. There is abundance of such news.

According to news papers in Mumbai, those responsible for management of Ganesh temple allowed Juma prayers to be performed inside the temple after seeing the crowds, looking for a place to pray. They wanted to remove the idols from there but Juma prayers stopped them from doing so. In counterpoint to this in Mumbai a masjid was demolished and mussallis were facing difficulties. Seeing their plight, their Hindu neighbors handed them over a piece of a prime piece of land  to perform salah without demanding any money. These events, though under-reported, show shining examples of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and brotherhood in the country.

In Dadri incident as social, print and electronic media exposed the reality of it. Men of letters returned their awards and non-Muslims as well as litterateurs condemned the happening. It was a dignified and restrained sort of protest to put pressure on their government, to rein in the hotheads who were causing social turmoil and polluting social relations between communities. They reminded the Modi government of upholding the rule of law and its responsibility to enforce equal justice with all citizens regardless of their name or fame.

These incidents of coexistence, tolerance and equality given above arfe the bedrock of the close cultural ties between communities belonging to different religions need to strengthened rather than weakened by Dadris.

We need unity and understanding, coupled with courage to show communal groups that Muslims are like single body and if a part of it feels hurt then the whole body is under its influence. Which means that Muslims cannot be taken for granted and treated like cannon fodder for the communal howitzers.

We have to prove by our good morality that we are their sympathizers and not enemies. We have to prove by our capability that we are helpers of the country not burdens for it. In the political field, Muslims will be perforce, forced to formulate their own strategies to get a rightful share of the economic pie, and if necessary, form an alternative party of secular forces which believe in religious coexistence.

Above all we must think deeply why such circumstances assail us. It is Almighty Allah’s habit that He inflicts tyrannous government when people disobey His orders and commands. In today’s age, all kind of evil things such as jealousy, envy, malice, erotica, adultery, mendacity, infidelity, craftiness, artfulness and cordial prejudice are available in our social palette. We have to cast our mind back to the events of Bani Israel. When they disobeyed and made lawful what Allah Almighty forbidden for them, so Allah Almighty banned for them that was lawful.
