Qur'anic Dua - 19 (English)

فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ أَنتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنُيَا وَالآخِرَةِ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ

Translation:

Creator of the heavens and earth, You are my protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die a Muslim and join me with the righteous."

This dua is mentioned in surah Yusuf ayah No. 101.

Explaination:

This is the dua of prophet Yusuf (as). His brothers threw him in a well and then he was sold in the market of Egypt. He was brought up in the palace of Egyptian king. There he was falsely accused of molestation. Then he was acquitted and Allah Almighty made him the king of Egypt. And then due to drought in the world, people from around the world started coming to him for the grain including his own brothers. When prophet Yusuf (as) told them that he was their brother, they were embarrassed for what they have done with him. Yusuf (as) asked them to bring his father prophet Yaqub (as) to Egypt.

When prophet Yaqub and all of his sons reached Egypt, Yusuf (as) made them sit on a heighted throne, and there all of them fell down in prostration. At that moment prophet Yusuf (as) said, “O, father, this is the interpretation of my early dream, My Lord has made it come true” and then he read this dua after mentioning the great favors of Allah .

One can read this dua for getting purpose of this world and Hereafter.
